What are Veneers?

A veneer is a thin piece of porcelain that is bonded to the tooth’s original enamel. If you have any gaps, crooked teeth, chips, cracks, or stains, veneers act as “instant orthodontics” and will make your teeth appear whole and straight. Porcelain is the preferred material because it mimics the natural color and shape of teeth. We refer to veneers as a “smile makeover” or “smile lift” because patients are essentially receiving a new beautiful smile predictably and comfortably. Our ceramic artist and Dr. Bonar and Dr. Basso will custom design your teeth and listen to your expectations repeatedly to insure you get EXACTLY what you are expecting.

How complicated is the procedure?

Acquiring veneers is not a complicated process but does take a high level of detail. Our doctors will first clean the tooth or teeth before determining which shade of porcelain to use. Then, a thin layer of enamel is removed to make room for the veneer. An impression of the tooth will be made or a scanner used and a temporary veneer will be created. Since we have a convenient close by laboratory, our veneers are typically fabricated in two appointments. After your permanent veneers are created, they will be bonded to your teeth and will last decades! While local anesthesia is typically used, we offer sedation options for all of our patients.
