Are you CPAP Intolerant?
Peaceful Rest Awaits
Start feeling refreshed after a night of sleep! Patients all throughout Escondido, CA and the surrounding areas come to Grand Dentistry for treatment of their sleep disorders before they turn into serious consequences.
Drs. Bonar and Basso share a passion for treatment of sleep disorders and sleep apnea, helping patients and their partners enjoy a better, healthier night of rest. Dr. Basso is licensed by prestigious organizations for treatment of sleep apnea, including the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. His continued knowledge and use of advanced equipment allows him to accurately measure and determine if a patient would be successful in treatment before they spend money on the equipment. We use an acoustic pharyngometer to determine the size and collapsibility of the airway in various jaw positions to determine the ideal type and position of appliance to be used for treatment. We also use a rhinometer to determine if there is nasal obstruction and if the obstruction is hard or soft tissue related. We use this information to determine the best course of treatment and if oral appliance therapy will be effective.
What is Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a condition that causes your airways to relax during sleep and prevent enough air from entering your lungs. It’s a serious, potentially life-threatening condition because the oxygen level in your blood drops causing a strain on the heart and lungs. This action creates a disturbance in sleep, which results in a tired feeling. While it is a far more common condition than generally understood, it leaves dangerous lasting effects on your overall health.
Are you CPAP Intolerant?
How do I know if I Have Sleep Apnea?
Aside from loud snoring and pauses in breathing, sleep apnea symptoms include:
Excessive daytime sleepiness (falling asleep easily & sometimes inappropriately)
History of high blood pressure
Memory problems or poor judgment
Feelings of depression
Gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn)
Nocturia (frequent nighttime urination)
Personality changes or irritability
We can determine if you have sleep apnea symptoms by asking you a series of sleep-related questions. Based on the score of these questions, we can order a Home Sleep Test or HST. You’ll be recorded in the comfort and convenience of your own bed, so the test is more likely to reflect what actually happens each night.
Based on your results, we can customize a treatment option, whether it’s surgery, CPAP, and oral appliance therapy, to open your airways, to reduce your snoring and sleep apnea.

“I've been coming to Grand Dentistry for 15+ years. They make you feel like family right when you walk in. Dr. Bonar and Dr. Basso are so kind and such great listeners so you feel comfortable and relaxed. I love it here! Marlene is my hygienist and I love her. She is so gentle and thorough. When she's finished I know my teeth are sparkling clean. I don't trust my teeth with anyone else!”

“Grand Dentistry has ALWAYS been top-notch. Their people are all very friendly and personable. I just had my teeth cleaned and Sonia is a joy to be with. She did a great job with the least amount of pain (I don't know about you but I've through lots of pain when I've had my teeth cleaned at other dental offices). They've been our dental office for many years and we'll never go anywhere else.

“I just switched to this dentist and this office has everything I have been looking for from the high tech equipment to the staff. They are very nice, professional and down to earth people. I felt very comfortable and not nervous as I usually do when I go to the dentist. This is going to be my new dentist for many years to come.”

“The entire staff, from front desk to dentists (including techs) is amazing. They are kind and friendly. I am terrified of dental work, and EVERYONE in the office is understanding and helpful. I have had previous dentists who shame or ridicule me for my fear, but not this place! Dr. Basso listens to my fears, and he works hard to make me feel safe. This place has helped me to come so far in reducing my fears!”
